6-08) Game one of the best of five opening round series between the Tofield Satellites
and Irma Aces was called early in the third period Wednesday night because of
an ice problem at the Irma Arena. Brian Tavaroli scored in the first period to give the Satellites a 1-0 lead. The Aces replied with goals by Clay Holt and Kent Erickson to take a 2-1 lead after one. No one scored in the second period, and at 18:28 of the third, play was halted as a large hole had developed just inside the Satellites blue-line. Brine was leaking into the ice from pipes under the surface. After a 20 minute delay, Referee Keith Wilkinson called the game, as the ice surface was unsafe to continue to play on. An announcement is expected from the Battle River Hockey League Thursday to determine how the series will continue. Game two is scheduled for the Tofield Arena Saturday night at 8:30 pm. |
